The Guayaquil Manifesto – Challenges
Serving the Lord as part of the Global Alliance Family has been a privilege and a joy for all of us in the AWF Executive Committee. Your faithful support and prayers have been essential and are greatly appreciated.
In 2018 we had a lot of opportunities to see first-hand the results of God’s powerful interventions and the unveiling of His amazing grace. We are all part of the great fabric that God is weaving that will ultimately echo His glory.
It was by God’s design that the Alliance World Fellowship was formed in 1975 to connect the Alliance national churches of different countries to encourage fellowship and partnership. A global expression of the Alliance family has been taking shape since then.
New churches and mission fields have been started all over the world through the initiatives of the Alliance national churches. Countries such as Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Gabon, Peru, and Philippines, among others, have joined Canada, Hong Kong, Netherlands and the United States to send cross-cultural missionaries to the least reached people groups of the world. On the other hand, many national churches are ministering to diaspora groups in their homeland and abroad. The ministries to the Chinese, Latin-American and Philippine diasporas have been especially effective and have opened up new roads for the missionary work.
The Symposium of Alliance Theology attached to each AWF Regional Conference, the well-received Young Alliance Scholar program and other initiatives in theological education have shown the importance of understanding our theological roots and their ministerial implications in today’s world.
The Global Alliance Family has been very supportive and generous towards the needs of less resourced countries and churches as well as towards emergency situations caused by natural disasters and political and social chaos. We have been using our Alliance national church network to channel those aids to effectively meet the needs and bring accountability to the process.
As we look back and contemplate the Almighty God acting in this world through His church and His people, we fall on our knees in awe and worship before our God, who does things beyond our imagination.
May the Lord give you the joyful experience of His abundant presence this Christmas and throughout the New Year.
Rev. Jura Yanagihara, President of the Alliance World Fellowship
