The Alliance in Cuba in the Midst of the Coronavirus

June 11, 2020

The C&MA in Cuba has faced increasing difficulties with the Pandemic. The country has had limitations in many areas of life, from access to water and electricity to the purchase of basic hygiene and food products. That situation has worsened with the new coronavirus. See how you can help our Alliance family in Cuba.

COVID-19 has worsened the situation in Cuba. Several pastoral families suffer from a lack of water. Many of their houses are made of wood and are damaged by rains, strong winds and hurricanes hitting the country. Some families do not have basic equipment such as a refrigerator or stove. In addition, products are increasingly scarce in the market, causing the population to spend hours in lines to buy something and increasing the transmission.

Despite all these difficulties, the Alliance Church in Cuba continues to grow. But according to a local leader, “the vast majority of pastors live by faith, in extreme conditions, in remote and difficult-to-reach places, without a telephone or communication.” Even so, churches have been working to care for those around them, paying special attention to families most in need, to those who have children, the elderly, pregnant women and the disabled. The work has been daily, collecting and distributing food and hygiene products, along with the preaching of the word. But they need more resources to be able to reach more families.

According to a local pastor, “the church exists in those places where many people do not want to go because it requires sacrifice, selflessness, willpower and passion for souls. In Isaiah 59:1 it is written ‘Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.’ I believe that we are those hands that reach out to fulfill the Lord’s call and be a blessing to all who need it.”

Please, continue to pray for the pastoral families, for the members of the churches and for the communities where they serve.
