Meet Ferdinand Sangoye, the New President of the Alliance of Gabon

August 15, 2025

Rev. Ferdinand Sangoye has been elected president of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Gabon (EACMG), ushering in a new era of leadership marked by spiritual depth, civic engagement, and a bold vision for growth.

With more than three decades of ministry experience and a lifelong commitment to the gospel, Rev. Sangoye brings a unique blend of pastoral heart and strategic leadership to the role. His appointment, confirmed during the 62nd National Synod on July 20, 2025, sets the stage for a transformative four-year mandate focused on evangelism, theological training, social impact, infrastructure development, and stronger national and international partnerships.

Born on December 21, 1973, in Mikouma near Lastourville, Gabon, he is the sixth child in a family of seven. Deeply marked by a spiritual dream in his youth, he came to faith on January 7, 1991. “That day I invited Jesus into my heart as my personal Savior, and since then, I’ve had the assurance of salvation and a commitment to serve Christ,” Sangoye said.

He was baptized on Christmas Day in 1992 and completed his theological training at the Bethel Bible Institute in Libreville between 1994 and 2000. Over the years, he has held numerous leadership roles within the Gabonese Alliance (EACMG) and beyond, including pastorates in both urban and rural churches, national coordination of Rick Warren’s Peace Plan, and service as vice president of the Bible Alliance of Gabon.

Rev. Sangoye brings decades of ministerial leadership and civic engagement to the role. His recent election came after choosing out of personal conviction not to run in two previous elections. “This time, I accepted by obedience,” he said. The transition marks a new chapter for the denomination, which currently comprises more than 37,000 members across the country.

Beyond his ecclesiastical duties, Sangoye is a recognized civic leader. He has founded several initiatives, including the National Prayer Breakfast of Gabon, the youth empowerment NGO Pro-RNP, and a microfinance initiative called AMIE. He is also the visionary behind the Fusionnellement Un platform for pre- and post-marital counseling.

In his first address as president-elect, Rev. Sangoye laid out five priority areas for his tenure:

  1. Evangelism and Mission Expansion
He aims to double church membership to 74,000 by the end of his term and strengthen existing mission fields toward financial, administrative, and ecclesiastical autonomy.
  2. Theological Training
Sangoye plans to produce at least four doctoral and five Master’s-level graduates in theology and promote full-time pastoral vocations to address a growing shortage of rural pastors.
  3. Social Engagement and Spiritual Healing
In education, his goal is to have a 20% annual conversion rate among students and staff in EACMG-run schools. He also has emphasized pastoral care to heal psychological wounds and broken relationships within the church.
  4. Land Security and Infrastructure
The new president intends to secure property titles, acquire new land, and complete long-delayed construction projects, including churches and pastoral residences.
  5. External Relations
Sangoye is committed to enhancing relationships with both the government and international Christian bodies such as the Alliance World Fellowship (AWF) and the Africa regional fellowships. He also seeks to revive engagement with youth and women’s movements within the denomination.

Rev. Sangoye has been married to Gwladys Mirlande Lekolo since 2010. Together, they are raising three sons: Phil Norin Dave Al (14), Namir Wamyol (10), and Gomja T-Sam Batombih (5). The family currently resides in Akanda, where Sangoye serves as local pastor of the EACMG church in Avormbam.

Rev. Sangoye invites the global church to join him in prayer for God’s protection and health for his family and team, divine wisdom and provision to fulfill the vision, a fresh move of the Holy Spirit and spiritual revival in Gabon, holistic growth across all areas of church life, and national transformation and godly leadership in Gabon.

“We are deeply grateful to God for this calling and for the trust of the church,” Sangoye said. “May we walk together in unity, faith, and boldness to see the mission of Christ fulfilled in Gabon and beyond.”
