Meet Bat Bayan, the New President of the Alliance of Mongolia

October 12, 2023

As the new president of the Mongolian Alliance, Rev. Bat Bayan asks us to pray that God will guide him and his family as they serve this young first-generation of believers.

Rev. Bat Bayan’s faith journey began in 2008 when he became a Christian. His commitment to spreading the gospel only deepened from that point onward. In 2014, he took a significant step by enrolling in theology studies at the Kingdom Leadership Training Center (HUST) School, a project of the U.S. C&MA dedicated to nurturing Christian leaders in Mongolia. His dedication and perseverance led him to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in theology in 2020.

Having spent years in pastoral ministry, Rev. Bayan has been at the helm of the New Beginning Light church since 2017. His extensive experience and theological education have equipped him to lead and guide the young first-generation believers of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) in Mongolia.

Born in the Khovd province of Mongolia in April 1968, Rev. Bayan’s upbringing was marked by the contrast of his mother’s nursing profession and his father’s non-religious military background. He was one of nine siblings, growing up amid a unique blend of love and discipline. In 1995, he married Khongorzul, and today they have four daughters: Javkhalmaa, 27; Khaliun, 22; Ganchimeg, 15, and Gegee, 9.

In April 2023, Rev. Bayan assumed the role of national church president, marking a new chapter in his journey of faith and leadership. His presidency is crucial, given that the C&MA of Mongolia is a young church with 780 members, 22 churches and 40 ordained ministers. The first missionary arrived in 1997, and the first Alliance church was planted in 1998. Most church members and leaders are first-generation believers, and many are part-time workers engaged in tent-making ministries.

The Mongolian Alliance church has been actively involved in various ministries, including Financial Freedom Seminars, Family Counseling, Celebrate Recovery Ministry, a Children’s Day Care Center, Character Development Courses, and Prison Ministry. Additionally, they plan to introduce a new ministry for elders to deepen their understanding of Jesus Christ. Their presence extends to the capital Ulaanbaatar and five rural aimaks in the countryside.

In Mongolia, an “aimak” (also spelled “aimag”) is a regional administrative division that is roughly equivalent to a province or state in other countries. Mongolia is divided into 21 aimaks, and each one has its own local government, including an aimak governor and a local assembly. These aimaks are further subdivided into districts or counties.

The challenges and opportunities that lie ahead are vast. The Mongolian C&MA seeks our prayers for their recently established Sunday School for children and youth ministries, as well as their outreach efforts in children’s and women’s prisons. Mission trips have allowed them to share the gospel with rural herders, resulting in new churches emerging in areas previously untouched by faith.

The landscape of Mongolia is vast, covering 1,566,000 square kilometers, with a population of 3.4 million. Of these, 1.6 million reside in the capital city, and only 2.2% have embraced Christ thus far.

As the Alliance in Mongolia continues its mission, keep them in your thoughts and prayers, knowing that the seeds of faith they sow will continue to flourish and bring light to this land. May God guide Rev. Bayan and his family as they serve as signs of hope and faith in Mongolia.
