The Church of the Believers, the C&MA Church in Liberia, celebrated its 37th anniversary at the end of May 2019 in the city of Monrovia. The event united members from all over the country in a weeklong celebration filled with worship, God’s Word, recognition and prayer. May God continue to bless their ministry and guide Reverend Liberty as he leads the Alliance family in Liberia.
Liberia is a country located on the west coast of Africa. It began as a settlement for a group of Americans who believed black people would thrive more in their native land than in the USA. As history had it, Liberia became the very first independent republic in all of the African territory. Although turbulent, its story is based on the search for freedom, for liberty. And, 37 years ago, thanks to God’s mercy and love, a C&MA Church was born there.
From May 20-26, 2019, the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Liberia, known as Church of the Believers, celebrated its 37th anniversary at the church’s base in Monrovia. The event united members from the country’s four districts: the Monsterrado County District, the Nimba County District, the Grand Gedeh County District, and the Grand Bassa County and Recess County District. The theme was “Assembling to thank God for His Blessing,” with a text taken from Psalm 95:1-3.
The weeklong celebration included various activities that went beyond the church’s building. On the first day, the participants prayed together for the Alliance work in Liberia and around the world, and they took part in learning more about God’s Word. The following day, after their morning worship and Bible study, they went from house to house, preaching and spreading the gospel. In the days following, the members worshiped, prayed, were taught about God’s Word, and held services in various homes.
On May 23, the national president of the Alliance Church in Liberia, Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Zarwulugbo Liberty, preached at the market ground in Fiamah. And, during the closing program, he gave Certificates of Appreciation to more than 200 members, present, former and deceased.
“Some of those honored are now pastors, deacons, deaconesses, administrators and church planters. Despite being in different churches, I will remember them because they are still my partners in the ministry,” Dr. Liberty said.
Rev. Liberty also praised the Lord for three major things in his ministry: for saving him and his father from the animistic society, and for saving the entire Fahnyah ethnic group; for the Church of the Believers’ membership with the Alliance World Fellowship; and for the speedy growth of the Church since his return from the United States of America.
There was great joy when Dr. Liberty announced to the assembly that Liberia will host the 2022 UMA Conference (AWF Africa Regional Conference). He thanked the national presidents and other participants from the 2019 AWF Regional Conference in Mali who voted “yes” for Liberia. And he thanked the headquarters church for hosting the 37th anniversary celebration and donating a cow for the closing dinner.
Dr. Liberty asked the members and leaders to pray as the Alliance Church in Liberia is preparing to take the gospel to neighboring countries, and for the reopening of the training institute for pastors and church workers in Liberia.
May God continue to bless their ministry and guide Rev. Liberty as he leads the Alliance family in Liberia. We pray that our Liberian brothers and sisters will have all the resources needed and the spiritual guidance necessary to continue with the Great Commission.
