100 Years of God’s Light Shining in Guinea

In January of 2019 the Alliance Church of Guinea, Evangelical Protestant Church of Guinea (EPEG), will be celebrating 100 years of age! In that time, our brothers and sisters have dutifully spread God’s love and His word to as many as they could reach. Let us raise our voices and thank our Lord All-Mighty for this wonderful achievement!

January 2019 will be a time of joy and celebration. The Alliance Church of Guinea, known as the Evangelical Protestant Church of Guinea (EPEG), will be completing a total of 100 years of working for God’s Kingdom. Let us celebrate with our brothers and sisters!

Its birth was not easy. At first, in 1880, missionaries from the USA set out to West Africa with the intention to plant churches and bring God’s word to the people of the region. This included Guinea, who was a French colony at the time. The local colonial authorities, however, did not authorize the missionaries to enter the country. But God’s word could not be stopped, and in 1918 the C&MA church was the first evangelical mission authorized into Guinea.

The first missionary post was in Baro. Following that, the church began growing and establishing itself steadily. They expanded to other provinces and cities, planting numerous missionary posts, and creating Biblical Institutes.

A hundred years later, the EPEG is an independent and self-sufficient church. The Guineans are now in charge of all management related activities of the church and have proven to be great allies in the missionary and evangelization field. The EPEG has trained more than 320 pastors, and so far, they calculate to have seen 77,709 lives convert to Christ, 22,251 of whom were baptized by immersion.

To celebrate this milestone, they have organized an on-going celebratory project. It began in July 2017 and will end in late June 2022. They encourage all of us to take part in the celebration!
