The Guayaquil Manifesto – Challenges
Africa was the first continent that received missionaries sent by A.B. Simpson. Now, the Alliance churches of the continent have more than 2.5 million members and start to reach beyond their national and ethnic boundaries. Rev. Célestin Koffi, Regional Coordinator of AWF Africa, wraps up the year of 2018 full of new initiatives to the region. We are grateful to the Lord.
As we look forward to the new year, we want to look back at the current year to appreciate the Lord’s actions in the Africa Region, as part of the Alliance World Fellowship.
Indeed, the highlights in 2018 were the missionary activities. The first major activity is undoubtedly the signing of the partnership protocol between AWF Africa and the Evangelical Protestant Church of Senegal. This event, which took place in Dakar, is the culmination of several years of study and negotiation by both parties.
The second highlight refers to the international consultation organized in Dakar from July 28 to 29. This consultation brought together on one hand the AWF’s Executive Committee (ExCom) and the Regional Directors of Missions’ Departments, and on the other hand the African and South American national missions’ leaders. At the end, serious decisions, but also firm commitments were made by the various leaders.
Other equally important activities were the vision trips that took place in some countries, especially in Tunisia and Kenya. These trips were made by Mrs. Gla, the regional treasurer for Tunisia, and in Kenya, by Rev. Célestin Koffi, the Regional Coordinator.
Other activities that marked the year include the C&MA National Youth Camp in Côte d’Ivoire, which brought together more than 1,000 participants in Toumodi, and the International Congress of the Pan-African Men’s Union of the Christian Alliance of West Africa held in August in Conakry (Guinea), with more than 150 participants.
We give thanks to God for His faithfulness, because even when we are unfaithful, He always remains faithful.
To God alone be the glory!
