Sudan’s House Church Movement Shines Amid Major Crisis Throughout the Country
A worldwide health crisis is no match for the power of God. The mission of making his name known and building his church continues in Vietnam and Thailand.
After the delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, missionaries Narong and Tinh reported that starting in November 2020, churches in the northern Thailand provinces of Nakhon Panom and Mukdahan, where a lot of ethnic Vietnamese live, were able to gather for worship. The missionary couple grabbed the opportunity to plan a joint Christmas celebration for the believers in these provinces, which are 95% Buddhist and only 1% Christian. The event was open to all, and five Buddhists prayed to accept Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior!
As we move into February 2021, evangelism, discipleship, visitation, and corporate prayer are resuming as the effects of the pandemic are lessening. Narong and Tinh are back to their normal ministry with excitement, especially doing the ministry of evangelism. They said, “Many had professed to receive Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, but they are not committed to go to church.” But this did not stop the missionaries from visiting these people, encouraging their faith, and praying for them.
At this point there are four discipleship groups in each province plus the regular weekly prayer and fasting fellowship. On Sundays, the believers from the Nakhom Panom church travel to Mukdahan to join the Sunday evening services for support and encouragement.
Please pray for the joy and boldness that comes from the Holy Spirit to enable Narong and Tinh to faithfully engage in this challenging ministry to reach out to Buddhist Vietnamese-Thai. Pray that God’s Spirit will change the thinking of these people so that they respond to his word.
Prayer is also needed for those people who have committed to accepting Christ and following him, as they may be persecuted by their families and others in the community.
As the couple continues on their five-year mission, they are seeking a transportation upgrade from the motorcycle they received two years ago to a car.
Please pray for this possibility and for all the facets of the work Narong and Tinh have been doing to advance acceptance of the Christian religion in these Thai provinces.
