For the past 30 years, Reverend Silas Yang has been studying and serving as a pastor in the Alliance church of Taiwan. He was elected President in October of this year and he hopes the Lord will guide him in preparing new church planting strategies, furthering the education of their pastors, and taking care of each ministry.
Reverend Silas Yang (Yang Hsing-Jung) was born in August of 1963 in Chungli, Taiwan. His family came to know Jesus Christ when he was still young, and his personal encounter with our Lord and Savior happened when he was 12 years old. At the time, his parents were working at the Christian university where he came to Christ. They suffered prejudice from other relatives, and even had to give up properties as they were driven out of the family. Pastor Silas has two brothers who are also believers, and their families are part of our Alliance family. He married Ruth Lu (Lu Chi-Wen) in 1990, and they have two daughters: Rebecca Yang (Yang Youn-Ai) and Joyce Yang (Yang Youn-Hsin), both unmarried. Both of his parents are with the Lord now.
In 1994, Reverend Yang graduated from the Taiwan Alliance Theological Seminary. Later, he completed two master’s degrees, one of them an M.Div., in the Lutheran Theological Seminary. A few years ago he started another degree, a D.Min., at the Chung-Yuan Christian University, but he had to discontinue his studies to care for his sick father. Now he is writing his doctoral thesis on religious education. Pastor Silas began his preaching ministry in 1994 and was ordained in 2000, and he has been serving since then. He was elected president of the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Taiwan in October this year and will serve in that capacity from 2021 to 2023.
Pastor Yang hopes to find wisdom in God to prepare new church planting strategies. He would also like to take care of the Taiwanese Alliance pastors, especially during this pandemic which has greatly affected them. He also hopes to invest in furthering and encouraging theological education.
He asks us to pray for his and his wife’s health, so that they may continue to be strong and serve the Lord. He also asks us to pray for his oldest daughter, Rebecca, to return to God. She left the church after starting college. In addition, Pastor Yang asks us to pray for healthy growth of all churches and ministries in the C&MA of Taiwan. They have ministries in other Asian countries, like Myanmar and Thailand, and they enjoy partnerships with other Alliance churches in the world.
Let us pray that God may guide and bless Reverend Silas Yang as he leads the Alliance Church of Taiwan.
