During the first phase of AWF’s Global Response to COVID-19, three African countries have had many fruits and blessings. Our brothers and sisters from Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, and Mali ask us to continue praying for them. May God bless many more lives through them.
Recently, AWF launched the first phase (Relief Projects) of the AWF Global Response to COVID-19. The Global Response aims to help communities and churches all around the world through these trying times. Through this initiative, many lives have already been touched and blessed.
In Gabon, workers have distributed food kits, masks, and alcohol-based hand sanitizers. They have helped 30 people with HIV/AIDS (15 children and 15 adults), who are currently undergoing treatment at the Nkembo Hospital. All come from poor backgrounds.
Pastor Martin Mbavu reminded us that through this relief project, they are not just helping people but also evangelizing them. A family and a woman shared how blessed they felt. The family expressed gratitude; they had been going through a stressful situation due to the virus and unemployment, but the church’s efforts helped them. They hope the projects continue. The woman thanked God for the help they provided, and she described it as a gift from the Lord.
The church in Mali has helped thousands of people in Bamako with food and hygiene kits, including masks, hand sanitizers, and soap. They distributed rice to more than 160 households, 50 of which were not Christian. They also provided churches with 20 hand-washing kits and liquid soap.
The churches estimate they have helped about a thousand people with food and hygiene kits, liquid soap, and masks. The churches they helped have approximately 5,000 members, and in total they were able to bless about 6,000 lives. The recipients have expressed how grateful they are, saying they now have hope for better days.
Cote d’Ivoire helped seven different regions that were affected the most by the current situation: Abidjan 1, Abidjan 2, Abidjan 3, Bouaké 1, Bouaké 2, Gabiadji, and San-Pedro. They distributed hygiene kits that included masks, hand sanitizers, and liquid soap. In total, the churches helped 313 communities, and they were all grateful for the churches’ help.
The churches of Mali, Gabon, and Cote d’Ivoire ask that we pray for the training of workers to continue the projects. They also ask us to pray that God will give them the wisdom to prepare for the next phases of the project.
We are grateful to our Lord for having allowed us to help others in these difficult times. Our brothers and sisters are doing their best to continue assisting their communities in any way they can. Let us pray that they continue to be a blessing and shine God’s light on many more lives.
