Lian Suan Pau has been leading the C&MA Myanmar as its president since March 2022. It is a four-year term. “Our main challenge,” he says, “is the evangelization of Buddhist Myanmar.”

Born in Old Darkhai, Chin State, a village on the Myanmar-India border, Rev. Pau’s childhood is filled with memories of serving at church with his family in Tuingo Village in the Sagaing Region, where he grew up. He loved attending Sunday school there. After coming to Christ at the age of 12, he was determined to know more about the Lord and share the gospel with others. He moved from high school to Bible School, obtaining his bachelor’s degree in theology and a Master of Divinity degree. His pastoral ministry started in 2005 at Saw Bua Ye Shin Village in the Kalaymyo, Sagaing Region and, until 2022, directed him to five other local churches.

Although Rev. Pau grew up in a Christian family and had his parents during childhood and part of his adult life, he recognizes that the gospel changed his story. Most children’s reality in Myanmar is very different. According to the 2014 census, 88% of the population of Myanmar are Buddhists, and only 6.3% are Christians. Many children in Myanmar are orphans as one of the consequences of the civil war (1949-present) and natural disasters such as the Nargis Storm in 2008 that killed 140,000 people and left many orphans. “The pre-mature death of many parents left many Buddhist orphans, and we will save 100 souls if we care for 100 orphans. Soon they will get married,” he says, “and we will have many Christian families.”

Rev. Pau aims at the conversion of the Buddhists, the majority and largest ruling society in Myanmar, and he dreams of the active participation of the church in the reestablishment and reconciliation of the Myanmar nation and the community. “Our main challenge is the evangelization of Buddhist Myanmar,” says Pau, who has set plans for the national church, including bringing more people to Christ through missionary work, purchasing more buildings for church planting ministry, and increasing the emergence of many missionaries. C&MA Myanmar’s president also wants to see the conclusion of some ongoing construction projects, such as the church building at Saw Bua Ye Shin, a multicomplex building at a church headquarters compound, and the renovation of two churches in Tahan District and one church in Yangon District.

As a leader, Rev. Pau wants to be reliable and resourceful, aiming to harvest more lost souls for Christ and to have dedicated partners in church evangelization and administration. He also asks for prayers for his children’s education and family well-being. Please continue praying for the Lord’s direction and vision for Rev. Pau and the leadership team at C&MA Myanmar.
