Quenching the Thirst of the Guineans

The Alliance in Guinea is quenching the physical thirst of communities in the high Guinean savannah, where temperatures are high and water is lacking. May God continue to use them to relieve people’s spiritual thirst.

As part of the AWF Global Response to COVID-19 program, the Relief and Development (R&D) project continues providing potable water for the communities in the high Guinean savannah, 700 km from the country’s capital. The idea is to build enough water wells to assist the population.

This region is predominantly Muslim. It is known for its elevated temperatures (45°C in the shade) during the dry season. They suffer from a glaring lack of drinking water. The Christian community of Siguiri, a city in the area, faces this problem daily: their church members and pastoral families lack water for necessities.

Thanks to God’s faithfulness, the national Alliance church’s support and the community’s involvement, the project is 90% complete. Soon the people living in this hot and dry province will have potable water to quench their needs.

This effort has united the national Guinean Alliance, the Christians of Siguiri and the Muslim community. It also gave unemployed people a job to provide some income for their households. The project will benefit 150 families. They will no longer need to travel long distances for potable water.

But this is just the first step. Next, the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Guinea would like to implement agricultural programs. The goal is to improve the living conditions continually and consistently in such a harsh region. More than that, they want to reach out to the people with the love of Jesus Christ, the only way our spiritual thirst can be relieved.
