Learn more about the early missionaries who gave the ultimate gift in the expansion of the gospel—their very lives! And remember with us these lives lived well!

IN THE LINE OF FIRE

Not I, but Christ.

For more than 120 years Alliance people have given their all to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with those who have not yet heard. Some have made the highest sacrifice—their very lives. It is with great respect that we remember and celebrate these individuals—lives lived well for King Jesus. It is our hope that as you read these biographies the lives they lived and the love they had for the lost is clear.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1 NIV)

Giving their all.

Although a number of courageous Alliance workers were caught in the line of fire during the chaotic world events of the past century, others found themselves in conflicts that arose outside of the spotlight of media attention. These dear folks quietly surrendered everything for a Cause they believed to be much greater than their own lives. We honor them here.

The Boxer Rebellion, 1899-1901

In response to imperialist expansion and missionary evangelism, local Chinese organizations began to emerge in Shandong. The “Boxers” across North China attacked mission compounds killing foreign missionaries and Chinese Christians. The following page lists those Alliance workers that were caught in the line of fire during this uprising.

The Vietnam War, 1961-1975

The Vietnam War, which began as early as 1945, was fought between the communist North Vietnam and the government of South Vietnam. During this violent era, many people were displaced and killed. Alliance missionaries caught in the crossfire were injured, captured, or killed during this time. Here is their story.

World War II

As the darkness of war covered the European continent, the Light of the gospel would not be quenched. Those that passed into the presence of Jesus during this time chose to surrender their own lives when they could have left this war-torn region. The call of the Lord Jesus was sweeter in their ears than self-preservation or the shouts of the enemy .
