Unreached People Hearing from Jesus in Villages in Nepal

December 9, 2019

How much sacrifice is necessary to bring the gospel to those who have never heard it? A Nepalese missionary walks two hours to talk about salvation in Jesus and pray for the people of Magar, Nepal.

After study, preparation and prayer the young Nepalese Ganesh Bayalkoti was sent in December 2015 by Bombay Bible Fellowship (BBF) Alliance Church in Mumbai, India, to be a missionary in Magar.

Nepal is a poor country in South Asia. Located mainly in the Himalayas, the country has eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. Nepal has many economic issues and is a mostly Hindu religion (80%). Christians make up less than one and a half percent of the population.

Ganesh lives in Birendranagar in the Surkhet District of Nepal, 590 kilometers from Kathmandu, the capital. The Magar people live in the mountain village of Dhokpa, about 12 kilometers from his home. Even today this village has no roads, no drinking water, no shops, and no electricity.

After a month in Nepal, Ganesh started visiting this people, sometimes walking for two hours or riding his friend’s motorcycle. Taking with him gospel tracts, he started sharing the Good News and praying for the people. After a few weeks, one family of seven members received the Lord Jesus Christ. Within one year, they were able to start a Bible study for the believers in that village.

Today, after four years of ministry among the Magars, there are 18 first generation believers (of whom 14 have been baptized) and more than 10 children. On November 5, they baptized four young girls who recently believed in the Lord.

The vision is to extend the ministry to 15 districts within three years and establish churches in different areas, such as in Petare Village (Dailekh District), Jagatpur Village (Kailali), Mugura Village (Jumla) and Damduwali Village (Saylan). They are an unreached people group until today.

Testimony of Manju Rasaili

Manju comes from a Hindu Magar background. She and her husband formerly lived in a village called Pakma. Three months ago, she was possessed by an evil spirit. She used to run towards the jungle and take off her clothes. Sometimes, four or five men would have to hold her and tie to a tree, releasing her when she calmed down. Her family was looking for help to have her delivered from the stronghold of the evil spirit.

One man from the village knew that if Manju were taken to the church, she could be healed. The man approached the family and brought them to our small fellowship in Dhopka village. They shared the problem, and the believers started praying for her.

Meanwhile our missionary, Ganesh, shared the gospel with the family and they believed in Christ Jesus. They accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. The prayers continued for Manju and just after one week, she was delivered from the evil spirit. The family has now moved to another village –Thapadeda. Manju also has believed in the Lord. Her husband and father-in-law have gone to India to work. On November 5, Manju was baptized by Rev. Crispus Christian.

Prayer Requests:

  • For the ministry continue to bear fruit.
  • For new believers to continue on God’s way.
  • For the BBF Alliance Church as they are planning to send more missionaries in the coming years.
  • For the ministry in these new villages.
