More than a year after the disastrous earthquakes and tsunami that hit Palu, Indonesia, destroying the Alliance church there, our brothers and sisters were able to meet again on December 6, 2019. Although the rebuilding project is not yet finished, the congregation was able to be together for a time of worship and prayer. They hope to finish construction of the church in April 2020.

Alliance Church in Palu damaged during the tsunami

Floods, earthquakes, tsunamis and landslides. Those were the main catastrophes to hit Indonesia in 2018. Because of them, many people lost their homes, their lives, their family members and friends. Our Alliance brothers and sisters were also affected, and their church was destroyed. We prayed for them earnestly and asked our Lord to keep them safe and help them rebuild.

Even though they were going through hard times, the church people in Palu used the damaged church building as a base for their relief operations. Through the Kemah Peludi Foundation, one of the Indonesian Christian and Missionary Alliance Church’s ministries, they helped those in need, making Jesus Christ’s name known among the victims of the natural disasters.

The new church building

By January 2019, the Hong Kong Alliance Mission and other Alliance ministries had stepped in to help rebuild the damaged structure. They provided resources and support for the rebuilding of the church as well as for the relief works in Palu.

First service celebrated on December 6, 2019

Thanks to our good God, our brothers and sisters were able to celebrate a service on December 6, 2019. The reconstruction of the church continues, but the plan is for the work to be completed by April 2020.

We thank the Lord our Savior for making all of this possible, and we thank our Alliance family for the prayers, support and help provided to us. May God continue to bless the Indonesian Alliance Church so that they can continue making a difference in their country.
