The members of the Alliance Church of Aleppo continue to work tirelessly to provide food and shelter to those who lost their homes in the February earthquake. Every day, prayer meetings are held in the church, and many people have come to salvation. We invite you to be part of this effort through your prayers and donations.
The Alliance Church of Aleppo, led by Pastor Abdullah Homsi, continues to show the love and mercy of Jesus Christ through humanitarian aid for the people who lost their homes in the catastrophic earthquake of February 6, 2023. The sanctuary and church buildings that sheltered more than 200 people just after the earthquake now house 150 people because 50 of them were allowed to return to their homes or found other housing. The church building is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide a temporary place to live, to eat, and find emotional and spiritual support. Prayer meetings are held every day, and many are coming to salvation. And then there are the testimonies. One child said she saw a light in the middle of the darkness and that helped her remain hopeful of rescue. Other people reported seeing a man with a white robe helping people in the middle of the wreckage. A Muslim engineer said, “He must be an angel, he must be Jesus.” Miracles are being reported amid the hard and compassionate work of many people.
There is an urgent need for shelters for those who lost their homes. According to Pastor Edward Awabdeh, the president of the Alliance Church of Syria, many apartments and houses are heavily damaged and uninhabitable. Housing is an essential need for families to resume their lives.
The AWF Relief and Development Team is coordinating the church’s relief effort in Syria. CAMA Services (USA) has been instrumental in providing support for the initial phase. The Alliance Canada, the Hong Kong Alliance Mission, and other countries such as Brazil and Japan have contributed to this initial effort. The Alliance churches of the neighboring countries of Lebanon and Jordan are providing much needed materiel, logistics, and personnel to help move the relief effort forward.
Please continue to pray for Pastor Abdullah and his family. He has been so busy that he sleeps only three to four hours a day and does not have time to see his children. Pray also for the volunteers who work tirelessly to keep the 24/7 operation running. The church welcomes teams of five to seven volunteers who can stay two weeks to help. The AWF is receiving donations for relief work to support the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. If you would like to contribute to the relief work there, select Turkey-Syria Relief or contact [email protected]. At this point, the AWF is directing donations to the relief work in Syria, where the Alliance churches have a strong presence. The AWF R&D team is also considering supporting a relief project in Turkey led by an Alliance international worker from the southern hemisphere.
