The Alliance in Mali: Growth and Continued Blessing

July 15, 2021

The Alliance church in Mali continues to grow and bless. The ministry has reached many lives, and they continue to reach out to their communities under God’s guidance. Soon they will be celebrating their 100th anniversary. Pray that the Lord continues to use our Malian brothers and sisters to shine his light in Mali.

Through the missionary efforts of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, the first C&MA church of Mali began in 1923. At the time, the country was known as French Sudan, and the first settlement was in the city of Sikasso. Soon after, stations were opened in other towns and villages, such as San Tombouctou, Gao, Koutiala, Sangha and Sanekuy. Many people from different ethnic groups heard the gospel and converted to our Lord Jesus Christ.

In 1963, a few years after Mali’s independence, the C&MA leaders saw that the best way to keep the church sustainably alive was to empower the nationals. And so the national leadership of the Mali Alliance was created. They took over the economic, physical and spiritual growth of the church. On April 2, 1963, the church was officially recognized by the government under the name of “Église Chretienne Evangelique au Mali” (Evangelical Christian Church in Mali). Later, in 1974, they changed their name to Christian Evangelical Church of Mali.

Thanks to God’s guidance, the Alliance in Mali has many ministries. They are a founding member of the Church Group and Protestant Missions Association in Mali (AGEMPEM). The church has eight departments and is present in 19 districts. They have an evangelization and missions department, youth, women’s and children’s education departments, a prayer department, and many more. They wish to reach out to as many people as possible, bringing God’s love and light to all.

Through physical and spiritual healing and a holistic vision, the Alliance church in Mali helps the Malian population at the Protestant Center for Medical Assistance. They also have the Women and Children’s Hospital, the country’s third largest effort in fighting neonatal and child mortality. God has made this all possible through their efforts and partnerships with American, Canadian, and European churches and organizations.

Please pray for their ministry to continue to touch, heal and reach many more people. They also ask us to pray for their leadership, missionary efforts, expansion and support. They will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the national church in 2023 and are building a new headquarter in Bamako. May our Lord and Savior continue to use our brothers and sisters in Mali to bless countless lives.
