A significant new publication has just been released by the Alliance World Fellowship (AWF), capturing key insights and conversations from the 2023 Alliance Theological Symposium held in Toulouse, France. Now available in both print and e-book formats through your local Amazon retailer, this edited volume brings together 14 scholarly papers that reflect on the history, theology, and mission of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA).
On June 26-27, 2023, more than 50 participants from around the world gathered in the beautiful city of Toulouse for a time of rich theological dialogue and global connection. Hosted by the AWF International Commission of Theological Education (ICTE), the symposium featured 25 papers presented by scholars from five continents in Spanish, French, and English. Recognizing the significance of these conversations, the ICTE has compiled 14 of the contributions into this newly released volume. Divided into three sections—History, Theology, and Mission—the book invites a broader audience into the vital conversations that shape the identity and mission of the global Alliance family. Readers will encounter topics such as Alliance distinctives, historical developments in mission, global ecclesiology, and effective missionary strategies, all presented by thinkers from across the movement.
Importantly, the ICTE chose to preserve the linguistic integrity of the symposium by presenting each paper in the language in which it was delivered. Readers are encouraged to use translation tools as needed and reach out to authors directly for further engagement.
“This publication is more than a collection of papers,” says Rev. Dr Peter Laughlin, Chair of the ICTE and editor of the volume. “It’s an invitation to deepen our shared understanding of who we are as a global family and how we can remain united in purpose despite our rich diversity. In a world of growing complexity, this kind of theological reflection is essential.”
With the Alliance now present in more than 80 countries and engaging a wide array of cultures and languages, the need for clear identity and theological cohesion has never been greater. The ICTE and AWF hope this volume will serve as a catalyst for ongoing, constructive dialogue across the global movement.
Whether you’re a pastor, academic, missionary, or simply interested in the life of the global church, this publication offers a compelling window into the ongoing work and thought of the Christian and Missionary Alliance.
