Meet Jang Mi Kyung, the New President of the Alliance of South Korea

July 18, 2024

In a historic move, Jang Mi Kyung, also known as Zenas, has been elected the first female president of the Alliance Church Korea.

Having begun her term on March 17, 2024, Rev. Zenas will serve until April 2026, aiming to maintain peace within the denomination and supporting those called to serve God. She is also committed to participating in mission projects of the Alliance World Fellowship (AWF) and the AWF APAC (Asia Pacific) Region.

Zenas’ prayer request is that all pastors, including herself, preach the gospel with honesty and beauty. She hopes her book, The Secret of the Gospel of Jesus about the Spirit, Will, and Body, published in March, will reach many readers. The book focuses on worship through the spirit of adoption in Jesus Christ, self-sacrifice, and living according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. She also asks us to pray for peace for all churches, pastors, and missionaries within Alliance Church Korea, AWF, and APAC.

“As the first woman to hold this position, I am humbled and honored. I hope to inspire other women to pursue their callings in ministry,” Zenas said.

Reactions from the community have been overwhelmingly positive. “Zenas’s election marks a new era for our church. Her leadership and vision will undoubtedly bring us closer together,” said a long-time church member.

Born on June 15, 1974, Zenas grew up in the very house where the Happiness Sharing Church now stands. This house, built by her parents 54 years ago, was inherited by Zenas, who established the church there. She lives with her mother, her older sister, and her niece. “This house has always been a place of love and faith, and now it serves as a place of hope for our community,” Zenas shared.

From an early age, Zenas was deeply interested in the Bible and the gospel. Although she initially majored in Korean language and literature in college and worked in the educational sector, she felt called to the ministry at the age of 37. She pursued pastoral studies at the Graduate School of Sungkyul University, eventually founding her church and joining C&MA Korea in 2019. Her dedication and service in various denominational roles led to her election as president.

With Zenas at the helm, C&MA Korea is ready for a period of growth, unity, and renewed faith.

Let us join in prayer and continue to support the Lord’s work in South Korea.
