Meet Munther Shahatit, the New President of the Alliance of Jordan and the Holy Land

April 24, 2023

“Developing a young generation of pastors and lay leaders to carry on the mission of the church” is one of his priorities as the new president, says Rev. Munther Shahatit.

Munther Shahatit is highly involved in pastoral and counselling ministries. He serves at the Christian Alliance Institute of Theology (CAIT), Lebanon as adjunct professor, teaching pastoral and crisis counselling. He is supporting many lives through Trauma Counselling Ministries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region where he provides professional counselling and training.

A native Jordanian, Rev. Shahatit grew up in a nominal Christian home. He came to know the Lord personally when he was 19 years old through one of his friends, who is now a pastor at a C&MA church. He met his future wife Dalal in the summer of 1990 and soon after they married. They now have four children and one grandchild.

Rev. Shahatit has been part of the C&MA church in Jordan since 1990. He started as associate pastor at Second Circle C&MA church in Amman in 2007 and was there until the end of 2022. In January 2023, he became the senior pastor of the Alliance church in Al Yadoudah, East Amman, and in March 2023 he was elected president of the National C&MA church of Jordan and the Holy Land. Rev. Shahatit was ordained in the national Alliance church of Jordan in 2011 and he has been the AWF regional coordinator of the Alliance churches in Europe and the Middle East (EMERALD) since 2018.

Rev. Shahatit’s academic preparation started with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Amman, Jordan in 1987. In 1992, he began pursuing a Theology Degree at CAIT. In 2003, Rev. Shahatit and his family moved to the United States to finish his master’s degree in counselling from Columbia International University in South Carolina.

As the new president, Rev. Shahatit wants to develop a young generation of pastors and lay leaders and together be more effective in carrying out their mission among the members, the church and society. Another priority is strengthening cooperation with other national C&MA churches in their region and beyond.

Rev. Shahatit asks us to pray for his family, for this new role, and for a new anointing from the Holy Spirit. He also asks us to pray for the national churches in Jordan and the Holy Land and the whole Middle Eastern region in these challenging times.
