Meet Liusbel Utrera Morgado, the New President of the C&MA Church of Cuba

October 16, 2020

Reverend Liusbel Utrera Morgado opened his heart to Jesus 15 years ago. His ministry has always been pastoral, and he has worked in leadership roles from the local church to the national office. As the new president of the C&MA Church of Cuba, the Lord has given him a vision for a healthy and growing church that aims to fulfill the Great Commission.

Born in 1985, Rev. Liusbel Utrera Morgado grew up in Arroyo Blanco, Cuba. His parents are Humberto and Blanca Rosa, and he has two brothers and two sisters. He married Saddy Gómez Quincoses on March 18, 2005, and together they have three daughters: Betsabé, 12; Elisabet, 8: and Abigail, 1.

Pastor Liusbel comes from a background of idolatry and witchcraft, but he came to the Lord in 2005 through the work of the C&MA of Cuba. He was going through a very difficult time: due to an illness, he had sought healing through witchcraft with no results. God miraculously healed him through his in-laws, who were both pastors at the time. After that, he gave his life to Jesus. He now has a bachelor’s degree in primary teaching and another in theological studies.

Pastor Liusbel began his ministry in the very town where his wife and he lived and grew up. It was there that they received God’s call and began to plant a church. They left the church with 60 baptized members and up to 100 people attending services. His ministry has ranged from local pastor up through all the leadership levels to the national office as vice president. He was elected national president in November 2019, and his term will run until June 2022.

God has given Pastor Liusbel a vision for a healthy and multiplying church movement in Cuba. “We want each pastor to grow healthily to shepherd and lead a church that is healthy from membership, leadership training, financially, to multiply into other churches based on the Great Commission,” he says.

Pastor Liusbel asks us to pray for his family. It has been especially difficult for his wife to see him involved in so many complex matters amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He also asks us to pray that God may continue to affirm the ministry to which He has called him. He also asks us to pray that each church reflect Christ, and that God will strengthen, provide and bring unity for each pastor and ministry.
