“Lead the way to the next generations” is the vision brought by Ángel Sabino Barrientos Chuquillanqui, the new president of the C&MA Peru. Ángel was elected in September 2022 for a five-year term, starting in February 2023. He cannot hold back his enthusiasm for his new role with the Alliance, and he is looking forward to seeing new generations meet Jesus. What a great way to celebrate the 100 years of work of the Alliance in Peru.
Passionate about work with youth and young adults, Rev. Ángel Barrientos wants to invest in the younger generations and their leadership in ministry. His passion stems from his conversion experience when he was still 20 and saw his life path changing unexpectedly.
Ángel came from a Catholic family of six raised by his mother after his father left home. When Ángel was a young adult, and a few years after his conversion, he met his future wife, Neli Meléndez, with whom he now celebrates a partnership of more than 40 years. Together they enjoy their two children, Abraham, 37, and Heidi, 35, and three grandchildren.
Ángel’s pastoral experience started with his graduation in 1985 from the Bible Alliance Seminary in Peru, Seminario Bíblico Alianza del Perú (SEBAP). Since then, Rev. Ángel has served primarily as a pastor, performing diverse functions in the C&MA Peru. He was part of the National Board of Directors as its secretary, treasurer, and National Missions Director. He served in the districts of El Agustino and San Felipe, and his last pastoral appointment was in Comas, where he was senior pastor from 2007 until January 2023.
The work of the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Peru will mark 100 years in 2025. The early days were fraught with difficulties, including persecution, but Rev. Ángel looks forward to celebrating the fruit of the C&MA Peru over all these years, which has planted and established more than 400 churches with 194,000 members, and has ordained ministers and deployed many missionaries.
Please continue praying for the new leadership of the C&MA Peru and the Lord’s direction and vision for its new president. There is still so much the Lord wants to do through Rev. Ángel and his family. As a church, we want to support them in prayer. You can pray for Rev. Ángel Barrientos in some specific ways: He asks for protection for his family, for his children’s health, and particularly for his marriage, as he and Neli deal with the challenges of moving and adapting to their new ministry.
