Mark Leonard Jones’ life was characterized by the commitment to his faith, and spreading God’s love, mercy, justice, and salvation worldwide through his ministry with CAMA Services and The Alliance Canada.
Throughout his career, Mark served with humility and compassion, touching countless lives with Jesus’ message of hope and redemption. His dedication to his family was evident, his presence at important events and the creation of memorable family vacations. The priorities in Mark’s life were clear: Christ, family, people and ministry.
Mark’s commitment to listening to God’s Spirit and using his talents and treasures to serve Jesus was undeniable. His dedication to his family and friends, both in times of celebration and hardship, was admirable. He was a visionary advocate, a networker, an initiator and a finisher.
Mark’s passion for bringing hope and practical solutions to people in disastrous situations was a driving force in his life. His adventurous spirit and empowering leadership style led to significant accomplishments in Community Development. He was instrumental in developing projects in Laos, nurturing leaders in Asia, and elevating the focus of the Alliance on holistic engagement around the world.
Born on August 17, 1966, Mark grew up in a deeply Christian family, which laid the foundation for his lifelong dedication to Christ. His early years were filled with a sense of wonder and appreciation for God’s creation as he explored regions, trails, mountains, skies, and oceans, allowing each sight to deepen his faith and slow his step.
Pursuing theological studies, earning a BA in Theology and a MA in Leadership and Community Development, Mark’s academic journey prepared him for the challenges of international service. In 1992 Mark, along with his beloved wife and life-long companion Paula, began their overseas ministry in Laos. Throughout his career, Mark served in various roles both with CAMA Services and The Alliance Canada as country director, regional developer for Asia, and most recently as strategy director for relief and development. He was also an active participant of the AWF Relief and Development Team and was instrumental in launching the AWF Global Response to COVID-19.
By God’s incredible grace, Mark’s greatest dreams were realized in lives changed for Christ, a vibrant marriage, his three children and their spouses who love Jesus, and his four delightful grandchildren. Mark’s strong exterior and soft heart, his brilliant mind and sensitivity to the whispering of the Spirit, his steadfastness, hunger, compassion, generosity, kindness, faithfulness, loyalty, insightfulness, and adventurous spirit made him a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, colleague, and friend.
Mark passed away on July 5, 2024, at the age of 57. We are grateful to the Lord for lending Mark to us for 57 years, and we find hope in the promise that he is now with his Lord Jesus Christ. This hope is shared by all who put their faith in Christ.
His celebration of life service was held on Saturday, July 20, at Peace Portal Alliance Church in Surrey, Canada.
