Alliance Churches in India Celebrate Growth and Revival in Maharashtra and Gujarat

August 21, 2024

Alliance churches in India are experiencing a new era in their life and ministry across Maharashtra and Gujarat states, as the work of evangelists and pastors yields spiritual fruits in towns and villages.

Several Alliance churches are reporting gradual, but steady progress in introducing people to Jesus and they are witnessing a surge in attendance. In one town, regular personal evangelism training is equipping church members to reach out to their community, with many new believers being drawn to Christ. One Alliance church has grown so rapidly that seating has become insufficient, with numerous new inquirers attending worship services.

In recent months, two retreats and a conference were organized for Alliance pastors and leaders in Maharashtra, fostering a spirit of unity and vision. Many attendees expressed a desire for more such events to strengthen the movement and cultivate cooperative efforts among the Alliance churches.

Gujarat’s Simpson Alliance Church celebrated a monumental milestone – its 100th anniversary – under the visionary leadership of Rev. Yakub Christi. The church hosted year-long celebrations, culminating in a historic exhibition of the Alliance’s legacy in the region. The anniversary event showcased the deep roots of the Alliance in Gujarat, where churches continue to thrive despite challenges.

In June, Alliance youth and leaders from Gujarat gathered at Sion Alliance Church in Mani Nagar for a series of retreats. Inspired by speakers including Rev. Ajay Kale and Jimmy Damore, more than 70 youth participated in the retreat, committing their lives to serving the Lord. The event marked a pivotal moment, as some youth decided to take up ministry work. Another retreat for Gujarat Synod pastors and leaders followed, emphasizing the theme of “living sacrifices,” with speakers like Rev. Ajay Kale and Dr. Atul Aghamkar encouraging participants to pursue a deeper life of holiness and dedication. The retreat saw active participation from over 85 pastors and church leaders, fostering a sense of purpose and renewal among the attendees.

One noteworthy development is the recent engagement of Alliance Ministries, led by Dr. Atul Aghamkar, in collaboration with the three Synods, to organize more events focusing on reconciliation, peace-making, and revival. Plans include deeper life conventions, prayer retreats, and comprehensive training programs for pastors, leaders, youth, and church members for all three Synods. Cross-cultural exposure to India’s ministries and leadership training will also be prioritized. These developments show their commitment to overcoming challenges and advancing the vision of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) founder, A.B. Simpson, ensuring that the work of the Lord continues to flourish in India.

Please continue to uphold each other in prayer as we work together to expand God’s Kingdom.
