On May 8, 2021, the C&MA of Guinea officially began rebuilding the Protestant Evangelical Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Dorata. It was burned down on March 22, 2020, during ethnic conflicts in the region. Let us pray that many more blessings rain down on this new chapter of the ministry of the Guinean Alliance.
Guinea, a country located in West Africa, often faces ethnic and religious conflicts. Despite the government’s attempts to promote a better relationship among citizens, tensions remain high. Last year, on the evening of March 22, the Protestant Evangelical Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Dorata was burned down during one of these violent clashes.
Fortunately, a little over a year later a new chapter started in this church’s ministry. On May 8, Reverend Jean Pierre Djaran Guilavogui, representing the National Executive Committee of the Evangelical Protestant Church of Guinea (EPEG), led the opening of the reconstruction ceremony. Local authorities did not attend the event, but many pastors and believers were there to celebrate.
The church is in N’Zérékoré, the second largest city in population in all of Guinea. More than 30 years old, it is one of the largest churches in the country. Unfortunately, last year’s fire wasn’t the first time the building had been destroyed. In 2013, something similar happened. But God has remained faithful throughout all the church’s challenges, and he has helped them overcome every one of them.
Reverend Emmanuel Grovogui stated in an interview: “The Evangelical Protestant Church of Guinea’s pivotal mission is to help the government make and preserve peace in Guinea in general and particularly in N’Zérékoré.”
Let us pray that God continues to use their ministry to touch lives and help their community. Pray also for the rebuilding of the Dorata Alliance Church, and for the people responsible for the project.
