In Damascus 1500 displaced families receive help through the Church and another 1500 outside of the Syrian capital. A team with Joanne Beach, who leads the Canadian department for Compassion and Justice, and AWF president Arie Verduijn, is visiting the region. They noticed that the relief work of the Alliance Churches in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan majors in personal interest and not just handing out food and heaters. These are necessary, but are given with respect and an open ear. Many refugees express their appreciation for this “Alliance Approach”. Pastor Edward Awabdeh from Damascus summarized it in these words: “We let people know how precious they are”.
