African Youth Unite to Impact Their World

In the vibrant city of Boma in the heart of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a remarkable story unfolded – a story of unity, inspiration, and transformation.

With the theme “Impact Your World,” the 15th international congress of the Youth Union of the Christian Alliance of Africa (UJAC) brought together 388 young minds from across the continent in August 2023, transcending borders and igniting a shared vision of positive change.

Desiré Louzolo of Gabon saw this congress as a treasure-trove of life-changing lessons. He shared: “These are valuable lessons, and we are richly blessed. We pray that we will be able to put them into practice, into tangible actions”, emphasizing the need to translate these lessons into real-world actions.

Rebecca Mbungu, a dedicated trainer at the National Institute of Professional Preparation (INPP) in Matadi, DRC, said: “This congress has blessed us with the Word of God and the sharing of experiences. We’re happy and blessed. We’re going to take part in the next congress, even if it is across the continent.”

Eunice Bilongo of Gabon rejoiced in the summit of spiritual growth reached during the congress. “Glory be to God!”, she shared. “This 15th edition is not an accident. I’m going back as a different person. In Christ, the old things have passed for a renewed Gabon and a more developed Africa.”

Mamie Mbungu of Matadi couldn’t contain her excitement about the international reunion that saw attendees from eight countries come together.

The UJAC, representing Burkina Faso, Gabon, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Congo DRC, Congo-Brazzaville, and Liberia, aimed to unite African Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) Youth for a better Africa through mission and educational programs.

The congress featured testimonies from youth movements in each country, showcasing resilience and determination. Rev. Dr. Joël Kuvuna, a native of the DRC, and main speaker, delivered a passionate message urging youth to shine brightly and become influential forces for good.

Another speaker at the congress, Rev. Dr. Serge-Armand Yao of Cote d’Ivoire, said he believed the event exceeded expectations and emphasized the importance of young people contributing to their nation’s transformations. This gathering marked a symbolic return to their roots, connecting with the land where the first C&MA missionaries arrived.

The congress united in prayer for the transformation of African nations, with Rev. Dr. Yao confident that these days of communion with the divine would bring fruitful outcomes.

Rev. Ferdinand Sangoye of Gabon, chairman of UJAC, urged young Christians to contribute to society through their vocations and personal growth and Rev. Benjamin Tamini of Burkina Faso encouraged attendees to follow God’s will and adapt to biblical truths in life’s challenges.

Also, key decisions were made by the UJAC General Assembly, selecting Guinea as the host country for the next congress in 2025, with Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso hosting in 2027 and 2029, respectively.

Tours, activities, Bible competitions, and a grand closing ceremony added a lighter note to the event. It was more than just an occasion; it was a milestone in the journey of African youth uniting to shape a better future for their continent and the world.

In a profound moment during the congress, participants from across the continent came together in unity and devotion for intercession prayers, seeking guidance, strength, and blessings for their countries and Africa as a whole.

But it wasn’t just about words; it was about action too. Attendees used a special offering to purchase plastic trash cans, showcasing their commitment to responsible stewardship of the environment.

As the congress concluded, attendees expressed gratitude for the transformative work accomplished through UJAC, leaving an enduring impact on Africa and the world.
