Alliance Ethos, a priority for the Global Alliance Family

November 14, 2018

The members of the ICTE (International Commission on Theological Education) discuss ways in which the AWF can encourage the AWF regions to continue to embrace and promote an Alliance ethos within their ministries and contexts.

In relation to this goal, a number of key areas were discussed:

  1. AWF Theological Repository – awf.world/repository – This collection of historical documents, general resources and both popular and scholarly articles have been brought together in order to offer the AWF a convenient place to explore the history and thought of our movement. All these resources are free to access, and it is hoped that members of the AWF around the world will find them helpful. At present, the majority of resources are in English but the ICTE will continue to add Alliance specific resources in other languages as they become available.
  2. The ICTE is holding an Alliance Theological Symposia in each region. So far Symposia have been held in Latin America and Asia Pacific regions with other regions to follow in the coming months. The purpose of the Symposia is to have experts in the history and thought of the C&MA to present on Alliance themes whilst also providing a forum for each region to discuss Alliance theology and its contextual practice. The times of group discussion have proven to be very valuable and have been appreciated by all the delegates.
  3. Young Educators Training – The ICTE discussed ways to encourage the development of scholars who specialise in C&MA distinctives. In June 2019 a training course will be held in New York for selected representatives from each AWF region.
  4. Network of Alliance Theological Institutes (NATI) – The ICTE is keen to see a network develop between existing Alliance Theological Institutes and Bible Colleges. By creating this network, the ICTE is hopeful that both fellowship and partnership opportunities will emerge that will benefit the AWF regions.
  5. International Curriculum in Alliance History and Thought – The ICTE is continuing to develop a standard curriculum program for the teaching of Alliance History and Thought that can be contextualised by each region. The hope is that this standard curriculum will provide consistency in the teaching of C&MA distinctives across the globe.

The annual meeting of the ICTE, chaired by Dr. Benie Van De Walle, was held in Manila, Philippines, on October 15th to 17th, 2018. The next meeting of the ICTE is in Amsterdam on July 2nd-4th, 2019. The members of the commission would value your prayers.
