The Guayaquil Manifesto – Challenges
The National Alliance Churches in Central America agreed that they will further cooperate to plant new churches and strengthen the existing ones, train pastors and engage in missionary projects.
Central America is a relatively new mission field for the Christian and Missionary Alliance and the National Churches are small, with the exception of Guatemala. In order to strengthen the National Alliance Churches and expand their reach in Central America, the leaders agreed that they need to conduct joint planning and share material resources and personnel. This decision was made in a meeting with the presidents and leaders of the Alliance Churches of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panamá held in San Salvador February 20th through the 22nd. These churches represent approximately 10,000 members and for more than 10 years the leaders have met regularly for fellowship and encouragement. It is worth noting that some successful initiatives, such as the pastors’ training program by SEBAP (Seminário Bíblico Alianza del Perú), are already in place and have helped train dozens of pastors and leaders of Central American churches over the years. On the other hand, there was a unanimous understanding that the Alliance churches in Central America should step up into a new level of partnership. Please pray for the Central America Alliance Committee (CCA – Comité Centroamericano Aliancista), comprised of the presidents of the national churches, as they cast the vision and put in place the different projects that arose in the lively discussions. The newly formed committee elected the Rev. Marco Antonio Rodriguez Perez (Guatemala) as the coordinator.
