You don’t expect it in a ruined city, but in Tacloban, the city that was hit the hardest by the super-typhoon in November, we met a joyful pastor, Dennis. Not much was left of his house and the Church, but Dennis smiled and praised God. When the floods pulled his little boy away from him he had to let his books go with the water. While grasping his son, his wife drifted away. He thought he lost her, but then a wave literally threw her against his back. Together they reached a safe place and survived. Later on he found the bag with his books, but they were all irreparably damaged by the water. „But I still have my Bible and can preach”. Pastor Dennis smiles, is optimistic and in front of what is left of the church, a banner proclaims words from Jeremiah 29:11 «I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. The name of the Church is: New Hope Alliance Church.
