“Building Healthy Churches” was the theme of the First International Congress of Healthy Church Development held in Lima, Peru, August 26 to 30, 2019. This congress, commissioned by the C&MA of Peru, was organized by the Lima Encounter with God movement of the C&MA.

Pastors and leaders from South America and other Spanish-speaking countries met in Lima, Peru, in August 2019 to talk about building healthy churches. The focus was on the Word of God, dependence on Him and even developing a healthy view of Christians in politics.

International speakers Stephen Lam, Jose Luis Navajo, David Muthre, Sugel Michelen, Jura Yanagihara as well as local pastors Javier Cortázar and Wilson Chávez challenged participants, including those from the countryside, to provide comprehensive pastoral care in order to have a healthy life.

A highlight of the congress was the signing of Mission Cooperation Agreements between the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Peru and four partner churches in the Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Spain and the USA. These partnership agreements will allow churches to share complementary resources to plant Great Commission churches in different parts of the globe.

The congress highlighted the centrality of God’s word and ended with a time of prayer in which the senior pastors prayed for their local pastors, asking God to lift and lead them faithfully in their work, to renew them and their families spiritually, and to direct them in building the Kingdom of God, not their own kingdoms.

It is our desire to continue every day the task of building Healthy Churches, where Jesus Christ is the center.

God willing, in 2021 we will have a second edition of this congress.
