The members of the Ebola Prevention Team that were taken hostage yesterday during an Ebola awareness campaign have been killed by their abductors. Team leader Moise Mamy’s body was found along with six others who had been killed during the same event. The team  went from village to village sharing with people how to best protect themselves from catching the Ebola virus when they were attacked by an angry mob of people.

Please pray for Nowei, Moise’s wife, and his 5 children. Pray for Hope Clinic and the staff in Guinea. Moise (photo) was the national director and one of the co-founders of Hope Clinic.

The following quotes are from a letter that was published by Moise Mamy’s coworkers in Guinea (received through Laura Livingston, Alliance worker in Côte d’Ivoire) :

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” (John 12:24 ESV)

Moise Mamy, evangelist, Mano Church president, Hope Medical Center co-Founder, [..] lover of his Master and God, Jesus, was chosen to be promoted to his heavenly home between September 16 and 17 when he was killed for trying to save others from the Ebola outbreak in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. His body was found along with six others who had been killed during the same Ebola Awareness event.

We ask that you pray for his family during this very difficult time. He has 5 children, Jacques, Amos, Enoch, Emmanuel, and Marie; and 2 grandchildren. His wife, Nowei was his steady and faithful helpmate.

We ask that you pray for Hope Medical Center staff as they deal with this tragedy. They are already overwhelmed by Ebola , two recent staff deaths, and have been closed for over a month trying to prepare the hospital to receive patients in an Ebola environment.

We also ask that you pray for the very tenuous and stressful environment, reinforced by this massacre of those trying to prevent Ebola. There are many who simply do not believe that Ebola is real and have chosen to believe that it is something that the authorities are using as an excuse to kill them. This belief has led them to violence against anyone trying to help them understand what Ebola is.

Finally, pray that this ignorance of what Ebola is or isn’t will change before it kills these people. The governor of the area who was at the same Ebola event and barely escaped with his life, said that there is something more dangerous than Ebola: believing that Ebola doesn’t exist.”

Pray that the Lord would transform this tragedy into something beautiful. Moise was also the District Superintendent for the Mano region and longed to see the people of Guinea come to know Christ as Savior. Our prayer is that through his life and testimony, many will come to a saving knowledge of Christ.
